Testing Dates: Applicants will be sent an email with their scheduled testing dates after an application is submitted.
Physical Agility Test:
The Upland Police Department physical agility exam consists of two parts.
Part 1 will consist of three events.
1. 99-yard obstacle course
2. Chain link fence climb
3. Solid fence climb
Applicants must pass all three events in part one of the exam and utilizing the POST approved scoring conversion system, the applicant must score a minimum of 400 points. Upon successful completion of part one (exams 1-3), the applicant will participate in part two of the exam which consists of a 1.5-mile run. The 1.5-mile run is scored on a pass / fail system. The 1.5-mile run must be completed under 15 minutes to receive a passing score. To successfully pass the Upland Police Department physical agility exam, the applicant must successfully pass both part one & two of the exam.
Written Exam:
The City of Upland administers the POST Entry-Level Test Battery (PELLETB) for entry level police officer trainee applicants. Applicants are encouraged to review the Applicant_Preparation_Guide_for-the-POST_Entry-Level-Law-Enforcement-Test-Battery.pdf which is available online at post.ca.gov to prepare themselves for the examination.
If you have previously taken the PELLETB examination and received a POST T-Score of 46 or higher from another agency within the past 12 months, you may submit that score for consideration in lieu of taking the written exam. Please make sure to attach it to your application.
Oral Interviews:
There are three oral interviews that must be successfully passed to get hired.
Background Investigation:
Applicants will be assigned a background investigator. During the background investigation, applicants will complete a Live Scan, polygraph examination, and background documents. Applicants will also have a chance to schedule a ride along. After the background investigation is complete, applicants will be scheduled for a medical and psychological examination.
Pre-Academy:
The Upland Police Department conducts a 3 week pre-academy. The pre-academy includes physical conditioning and firearms training to prepare recruits for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Academy.
